The venue
Located in the quiet rural township of Whorouly, REMEL 185 was established in 2008, following the demise of the tobacco industry. It incorporates the old with the new.
The drying shed, which once stored dried tobacco piled to the ceiling and bales ready for sale day, has been transformed into a dining area seating up to 120 people.
The grading shed, where many hours were once spent sorting those golden leaves, is now the kitchen — where again many hours are spent, but now producing an array of wonderful food, from homemade pasta to one of the best lemon tarts you will ever eat.
The kilns have remained in their original form and are well used as storage space. The outside area, where tractors once drove through with their cargo, is now somewhere to sit and relax on the cool lawn, or undercover around a burning pot belly stove on a cold winter’s day.
For a family function, a reunion, a birthday, a work event or even a wedding, REMEL 185 offers you something unique.

Who eats here

Weddings and birthdays, yes. But the regular trade is bus groups on their way to Beechworth and Bright, and the clubs that have been coming for years: Probus, the CWA, the Lions Club, Senior Citizens, the Beer and Beef Club, Alpine Agribusiness, the Rural City of Wangaratta and the Whorouly Football & Netball Club. Family reunions, rail trail riders, fishing groups and V8 clubs too.
